Patton SmartNode
Patton SmartNode devices are the other supported family for analog lines — sturdy 1–4 port FXO gateways common in installations that predate VoIP.
Adding the gateway
Admin → Trunks → Add gateway and choose the Patton Analog FXO template. The template is generic across SmartNode FXO models (SN4110-series and relatives) — you tell it what you have:
- Port count — 1 to 4 FXO ports.
- Country tone set — thirty-plus national profiles; this drives dial-tone and disconnect detection, which analog lines get wrong more often than anything else.
- Hunting mode — Normal (outbound calls always try port 1 first) or Cyclic (round-robin across ports, evening out line wear and per-line usage caps).
- Outbound dial behavior — wait for dial tone, or dial after a fixed 1–5 second delay for lines with unreliable tone.
- Fax — T.38 supported.
Make sure the device runs a current SmartNode firmware for its model before provisioning — the template configures, it doesn't flash.
Routing
As with any gateway, the analog lines route through the normal machinery: a default route or inbound rules for calls ringing in, membership in an outbound rule's trunk chain for calls going out — commonly as the failover route of last resort.
